Breaking Free: A 13-Year Journey of Recovery with Muskan Foundation
HARISH KUMAR I am speaking out about my recovery because... It is the greatest achievement of my life! Since the beginning of my recovery 13.5 years ago, I have never been happier. Whilst using alcohol and pharmaceuticals, my life had become a desperate hell of unemployment, poverty, disease and prison time, to which my family had also become unwitting victims.
Substance use disorder had destroyed me, with death seeming to be my only solace. However, after several unsuccessful attempts at quitting, I began my final treatment for the disease on 18th October 2011 at Muskan Foundation, Drug De-addiction & Rehabilitation Centre, New Delhi and have ever since enjoyed a recovery I never believed possible. I want sufferers to know that there is hope and recovery if you want it, that your life does not have to be dictated by your disease.
Being in recovery has changed my life, and now I…… Enjoy all the perks that abstinence from substance has given me, such as good health, sound financial and social standing, rejuvenated relations with my family and a positive self-image. Recovery is a choice I made and one which is open to anybody if you are prepared to work at it.
I maintain my recovery by……The work I do at Muskan Foundation, where I took treatment. This is where my recovery was born over 13 years ago. I aid the treatment of other sufferers admitted to the centre and having too been a sufferer I can empathize with all the overwhelming difficulties encountered in recovery from this disease, an asset invaluable for successful treatment. My work not only helps others but also allows me to keep my own recovery in check.
