Growing a Greener Tomorrow: Tree Plantation by KMSWS

The tree project took place in three revenue blocks: Diamond Harbour-1, Diamond Harbour-2, and Falta, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. This region is well known in bio-diversity and agricultural presence.

Challenges faced before implementation the project:

Before the start of the project the threat were from inhabitant and live stocks. Hence immediate pre-cations needs to check and control the growth of saplings.

It was a mega project for KMSWS to go out side of the revenue blocks of South 24 parganas district. The project was funded by DCB bank and the money was mobilised by the Concern India Foundation. Total 10000 saplings were planted mostly in the Govt places like side of canals, side of rural village road areas and some saplings were planted in the premises of cemetery and burning ghat areas.

Around 600 fruit saplings were distributed among the students of Govt High school to plant in the saplings in their personal land. From these saplings students will get fruits and carbon credit also will be happened when the saplings will matured. All the saplings were maintained and nurtured through out the year. After one year prizes also announced based on the growth and healthy condition of planted saplings in the villages and among the students. Apart from that almost 1000 saplings were put aside for the replacement of damage saplings.

Impact created among the communities:

This mega tree plantation drive create a major impact in the community in terms of economic and climatic. Creating almost 4110 labour days involving 13 workers throughout the year and carbon crediting by the healthy saplings established the areas green and clean. Biodiversity created, regular in habitat of birds and others animals. Soil protected and cyclone also will be keep protect during the cyclone.
