Project Overview

The Mangrove Restoration Project in Sundarbans in West Bengal, its aims to promote climate resilience by restoring mangrove ecosystems. The project is designed to address multiple achieve with in a 14-month duration from its organization. The project focuses on the South in 24 Parganas district, specifically in the Patharpratima block. A total 5500 saplings to be planted.

The specific and measurable objectives of the project are as follows:-

  1. Increase Biodiversity:- Enhance the areas of biodiversity by planting a variety of mangrove saplings, fostering an illness environment for local wildlife.
  2. Promote Climate Change Mitigation:- In activities that contribute to the reduction of carbon footprint through effective planting official action that is taken to solve a problem or improve a situation.
  3. Socio-Economic Improvement:-To Provides opportunities for a local communities by creating employment through tree plantation activities and developing community to the organization.
  4. Village Tree Plantation Promotion: To support local participation, in tree planting campaigns to increase green cover in an area.

In November, the project successfully identified and obtained land permissions, laying the groundwork for mangrove plantation. A total of 926 saplings were plants in November and December. The achievements, particularly the focus on native species like Sundari and Baine, showcase significant improvement in local biodiversity. However, weather-related disruptions posed temporary challenges but were effectively addressed through additional community efforts, there by setting goals toward the project's overall climate resilience goals.

Next Steps

 The action plan for the upcoming reporting period aims to plant at least 1,000 saplings to tackle the existing bulk. This goal aligns with the project overall objectives of enhancing biodiversity and creating valuable community assets. The plan will incorporate improved community engagement strategies to ensure that local knowledge and resources are utilized efficiently.

Training sessions will be organized to educate and mobilize the community in preparation for tree planting activities. Additionally, contingency plans will be created to address potential weather related impediment, ensuring that the project stays on schedule despite challenges.
